报告内容简介：

在本次报告中，麦金泰尔教授将围绕《零售商品的分类管理》与《市场破坏：核心能力vs.垂直整合》这两个议题进行介绍。

【Assortments: Building and Evaluating Consumer-centric Retail Assortments】At large department store chains, one of the most important decisions for retail buyers involves the assortment of items to carry in a category. For instance If there are 114 CD-Players on the market and the assortment is to carry 5 of them, there are C(114,5) possible assortments [146,000,000 possibilities !!!]. In addition, assortments need to be “adjusted” by adding and dropping items. At the Retail Workbench, we developed and evaluated a system to “solve” this important problem.

【Market Disruption: Core Competency vs. Vertical Integration】The traditional wisdom about business strategy is to focus on the “core competency” of the firm and to outsource everything else. But Tesla, like Netflix & Amazon, is showing that large scale disruption, a la Henry Ford in the 1910’s, flips this model instead toward “vertical integration.”

主讲人简介：

谢尔比·麦金泰尔（Shelby McIntyre）是来自位于美国硅谷核心的圣塔克拉拉大学（Santa Clara University）商学院的市场营销学教授。他先后于美国斯坦福大学获得学士、MBA和博士学位。他的主要研究方向包括：营销信息系统、营销分析与决策，以及竞争性营销战略。他的论文大量发表于全球商学顶级期刊，如Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Management Science，以及其他著名商学期刊，如Harvard Business Review, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Product Innovation Management。麦金泰尔教授曾在通用电气及其他几个不同行业的创业公司工作，并作为联合创始人创立了第一家在线笔记本销售企业Notebooks.com。 此外，他还为IBM、西尔斯，以及多家创业公司提供咨询服务。麦金泰尔教授是根据北邮和圣塔克拉拉大学今年签订的备忘录，现在我校担任访问教授。
